Comcast Cares Earth Day Clean Up

On April 30th, we will have a city-wide cleanup and gardening day from 9 am to 12 pm across Somerville, partnering with Comcast for Earth Day/Comcast Cares Day! We are looking for as many volunteers and groups as possible to get out, get dirty, and clean up our parks, streets and gardens! The event concludes with a city wide BBQ at the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse for all volunteers to attend. If you are interested in joining or bringing a group please reach out!

April 30th, 10am-12pm

Cleaning & Greening at Draw 7 Park

Our largest and most popular Cleaning & Greening event. Draw 7 Park relays on our Cleaning & Greening events for its regular maintenance and clean up after the park is used as a snow deposit. This site is great for large groups and can accommodate as many volunteers as needed.  Draw 7 Park is located on the Mystic river right behind Assembly Row. Easily accessibly by car or public transportation.

June 3rd or 4th (dates and time depending on festival timing and sponsor)

South Street Farm – Common Boston Festival

Sponsored by our friends at aMorton Design

A great opportunity to get to know the projects Groundwork Somerville does in our community! Our South Street Farm is Somerville’s largest urban farm and is the heart of many of our projects. June will be our first official harvest of the season for our mobile and bike markets. We will also be conducting some much needed maintenance on the farm giving volunteers a better look on how the site functions and to get to know urban agricultural systems we utilize.

July 28th

South Street Farm Round Two!

More harvests for those who cant get enough!

August   26th 10am-12pm

Back to School Cleaning & Greening!

During the last week of August Groundwork Somerville hosts park clean up events with local colleges and universities in a day of giving back for incoming college students. In partnership with the Department of Public Works we work to bring local college students to different parks and open spaces in Somerville for a day of cleaning and greening! This event is great for different groups and is open to all others who wish to volunteer!

October 14th

South Street Farm Winter Preparation!

As our growing season comes to a close South Street Farm needs one final harvest and clean up day! Join us for our final harvest of the season and help prep the farm for winter with cover crop planting and other maintenance projects.

November 6th

Bulb Blitz Somerville

In partnership with the City of Somerville, Groundwork Somerville helps participate in the city’s annual Bulb Blitz. We will be organizing volunteers for our Last Cleaning & Greening event of the season where we will plant bulbs at different location to ensure our city looks great next Spring!

These volunteer based efforts work to improve public space in partnership with local businesses and organizations. It is our hope that these events will continue to run throughout the city as Groundwork Somerville’s Cleaning & Greening programs expand and allow more opportunities for individuals to engage in their community.

With the help of individual and business based partnerships, Groundwork Somerville’s Cleaning & Greening program will bring our community together to make the city sparkle!
