Eco-Shed Ribbon-Cutting at South Street Farm!

July 30, 2013 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

At 9 am on July 30th, all of Somerville is invited to the South Street Farm  for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the long awaited completion of the Eco-Shed! Built in a collaborative effort by Prospect Hill Academy students, the Green Team, and volunteers like Josh Briggs and Anne Vaterlaus, the shed project was funded by the City of Somerville as part of the Mayor’s Urban Agriculture Initiative to create more green space, growing space, and locally grown produce.  It will feature a rainwater harvesting roof system, a bicycle-powered water pump, and green walls, as well as storage and display space.   To celebrate the completion of this ambitious project, the Groundwork Green Team will show visitors around the farm, and Mayor Curtatone will give a keynote speech!

The South Street Farm, Somerville’s first urban farm, is located near Taza Chocolate, on a former vacant lot owned by the Somerville Department of Public Works.  Groundwork Somerville’s Green Team, staff, and dedicated volunteers–including Urban Agriculture Ambassadors trained by the city–manage the site and grow fresh, local, organic produce for the Somerville Mobile Farmers Market.  Stop by and check it out!
