Somerville, MA—participants of Community Corridor Planning (CCP) will be presenting a Community Action Agenda on December 2nd, 2010 at the Capuano Early Childhood Center in East Somerville, 150 Glen Street. The Action Agenda spells out concrete goals for turning community priorities and principles into direct action around Jobs and Local Businesses; Affordability; and Green-Open Space/ Active Transit. The event takes place between 6:30 and 8:30pm. Refreshments, child-care and interpretation will be provided.
In the fall of 2009, CCP convened a community process to develop and vote for 11 corridor principles along the new Green Line corridor in anticipation of significant changes. The Action Agenda that will be presented on December 2nd recommends specific goals for how to turn these principles into action. CCP working groups developed the recommendations over the summer and fall, and are eager to share their plans and gain support from the broader community.
Led by a 16 member resident advisory team, Community Corridor Planning (CCP) is a partnership of Groundwork Somerville, the Somerville Community Corporation (SCC), the Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership (STEP), and the Somerville Community Health Agenda, committed to resident participation in planning for a livable, equitable Somerville in anticipation of the Green Line Extension. Since its inception in 2008, CCP has reached over 900 people through door-knocking, one on one visits, community meetings, data and photo collection for “inTeractive Somerville”, an on-line mapping tool. Participants of CCP created the 11 Core Corridor Principles in 2009, which have guided all subsequent work. CCP hosted a series of design workshops for community members culminating in a final report with visual recommendations for the proposed Green Line stations that were submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. CCP also convened 3 working groups to create the Action Agenda that will be presented on December 2nd, 2010.
