Canoemobile

In Partnership with the YMCA and the Wilderness Inquiry, Groundwork Somerville will be hosting the 2015 Cannoe Mobile! We will be taking local students out on the Mystic River for a day of fun!
Since its inception in 2010, Canoemobile has served over 10,000 students, addressing nature deficit disorder, summer learning loss, and the achievement gap. Research shows that these experiences help to improve school attendance and facilitate teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. Each of the canoes (24-foot, hand built wooden boats) seats nine students and one environmental educator-canoe guide. Participants study water quality, climate change, and ecosystem restoration while on the water and with partner organizations that facilitate interactive, and land-based curriculum stations.
